God's Book of Records

For those who believe God wants you to take a vow of poverty. God doesn't want our charity to be broke. I don't believe, He want us to be just scraping by, either. Living paycheck to paycheck means we are one missed paycheck away from being dependent on charity ourselves.

God wants us to be generous and to have generosity and abundance in our lives.

There are more people who can give of their time and talent than can give freely out of their wallets. But a well funded charity creates even more opportunities for those with time and talent!

In Corinthians 9:7 Paul tells the Corinthians, "Who among you would serve as a soldier at his own expense? Who tends a field and does not eat of the grapes, or tends a flock and doesn't drink of the milk?"

Even the old testament (Deut. 25:4) says, "Don't muzzle the ox while he treads out the grain." God isn't just talking about oxen. He says it for our sake. The plowman that plows the field and the thrasher that thrashes the grain should do so with the hope of sharing in the harvest.

Paul says the same thing to Timothy in 2 Tim. 2:6. "Even the hard-working farmer should have first share of the crops."

Perhaps St. Luke said it best (from the King James Version). "Give, and it shall be given unto to you, good measure, pressed down, and shaken together and running over shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again." Luke 6:38 (KJV)
(Same verse from the New Living Translation) "If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use in giving--large or small--it will be used to measure what is given back to you." Luke 6:38 (New Living Translation)
